Chew planned, organised and delivered a successful 3-day event programme for a client in the pharmaceutical sector in the beautiful town of Sitges just outside of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. Sitges is renowned worldwide for its picturesque settings, rural landscapes and culture.

Barcelona is a popular hosting destination for MICE business but for those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, just a short 30-minute drive away is the town of Sitges which is the perfect destination for events for a great number of reasons:

Meetings, events and activities: The town offers 3,000 beds in 4* & 5* hotels, 1 Auditorium up to 1400 attendees and 2 Convention centres for up to 900 guests. The infrastructure together with cultural treasures, gastronomy, leisure, sporting facilities and much more make it the destination for your event.

Accessibility: Located about 35km southwest of Barcelona, lying on the Costa Garraf a small stretch of coastline nestled between Costa Dorada and Costa Brava costal areas makes the town easily accessible by air, land and sea with Barcelona Airport hosting as the main international gateway and is the largest and busiest airport in Catalonia.

Sustainability: Sitges joined the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations in 2022 and has made a commitment to promote a model based on environmental, cultural and socioeconomic sustainability.

Sunny Climate: Weather in Sitges is characterised by a warm Mediterranean climate, with long, mild, sunny summers and dry winters. The town experiences a relatively low amount of rainfall throughout the year.

Sitges is Singularity, Inspiration, Tradition, Gastronomy, Empathy and Serendipity

The Event

Meeting Room at Eurostars Sitges

Venue: Eurostars Sitges

After in-depth research and analysis on the event requirements, in-person site visits the chosen hotel for the company offsite was Eurostars Sitges. Described and recognised as an oasis of tranquillity overlooking the Mediterranean, the hotel was designed to make every moment for guests an unforgettable experience, offering bright and cosy rooms with beautiful views of the hotel grounds, sea and Sitges town. With the offer of relaxing in the onsite Spa, enjoying one of the four outdoor pools and indulging in its gastronomic offer of three restaurants and four exclusive bars all guaranteeing a unique sensory experience.

Eurostars offers a wide range of meeting and conference spaces in it’s onsite conference centre, from 10 to 480 guests all equipped with the highest standard of audiovisual equipment and adjoining food and beverage breakout spaces.

Activities and Excursions

Catamaran Cruise from Port Aiguadolc

Throughout the programme there were several additions besides from the meeting and workshop element. Including a private an exclusive catamaran cruise for all guests departing from Port Aiguadolc sailing to the coves behind Terramar, anchoring and bathing in the sea all whilst enjoying on board refreshments and ‘Spanish tapas. It was an experience thoroughly enjoyed by all and a memorable experience all round.

What is the best way to see a town and all it has to offer? This was the burning question when planning the agenda. The answer; a team iPad Rallye. Competitive, fast-paced and can be totally bespoke to the clients requests. Kick starting in the centre of Sitges, followed by a 2-hour team challenge with checkpoints along the way, with each team providing photo or video evidence (creativity was key) at each location. It was a great way to see Sitges and for the team to come together and enjoy their last day. Winner or no winner there were no sore losers – they all was rewarded with a cocktail in the sun to celebrate.

Restaurants

Exclusivity and private dining was a key requirement for our client, with a group size of 60 we knew this would work well for those must visit venues. In Sitges, so close to the coast meant selection of menus had to include seafood. Over the course of the week, we enjoyed a panoramic view of the port at Can Laury, high rise views over the town at the ME Terramar, local dishes including Paella, Croquettes, Migas paired with Spanish Wine and Aperitif’s.

Final Thoughts

Sitges as a corporate destination is one to consider and have at the forefront when planning a coastal event, trip or visit. As you are now knowledgeable of all the town has to offer you know it can cater to all needs and has those wow aspects. Escaping the hustle and bustle of the city sometimes is the best way to reset, refocus and be ready for the time ahead.
